Humanoid robots and the NDIS

The NDIS supports humanoid robotic companions for your participants

How funding works

In an NDIS budget, there is a category called "Assistive technology". This budget can fund technologies such as humanoid robotics, and participants can rent one from a provider.

This applies only when the robot is used as a companion or assistant. It does not apply to medical or clinical tasks. Whether it suits a particular participant depends on their plan.

The safety boundary

We are experts in the regulatory framework for NDIS. Primarily, humanoid robots can help only with assistance activities that do not involve physical or medical contact with the participant.

Around the person

  • Bringing food and drinks over
  • Household chores
  • Companionship and assistance in the home

Never on the person

  • No lifting the participant
  • No touching or physical contact with the participant
  • No medical or clinical tasks
